Video : Skin Cancer/Sunscreen – the Dilemma
A fascinating wide ranging video looking at UV and skin cancer, which through examination of research asks some fundamental questions.
Things have changed since this research was done in that we now have a greater emphasis on UVA and UVB blocking creams. Arguably blocking UVB alone blocks the signalling that tells people they are burning, allowing longer exposure to UVA. There are still questions as to how effective these creams are in real life usage.
UVB is essential to vitamin D production. So the vitamin D issue remains with use of UVA + UVA screen.
There is now also growing acceptance of studies showing that UVA exposure is also a factor in skin cancer as referred to in this exellent. There have been suggestions that this is the case for a while but it has taken a while for them to gain traction.
“Can vitamin D help prevent certain cancers and other diseases such as type 1 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain autoimmune and chronic diseases? To answer these questions and more, UCSD School of Medicine and GrassrootsHealth bring you this innovative series on vitamin D deficiency. Join nationally recognized experts as they discuss the latest research and its implications. In this program, Edward Gorham, PhD, discusses the dilemma of skin cancer and sunscreen use.”
